Referee Question Empty Referee Question

Post  Steve Tamerius Tue Jan 13, 2009 4:31 pm

If there are two or more flights of bench-only in a competition, can a referee lift in one flight and judge in the others after his flight is completed? That's assuming, of course, that the referee is not judging anyone else in his own weight class.

I know when I was lifting in the USPF some years back this would happen occasionally. As long as there is no conflict of interest, I'm not sure why it couldn't happen but I wanted to get some official stance on this. We only have a small group of referees here in Southern California and, if someone fails to show for a meet, it would be nice to have a back-up plan.

I don't think there would be a problem with that. I have done it similarly at some meets around here. As long as you are not judging your competition, I don't think it is a problem. As a meet director myself, I know how hard it is to find good, willing referees.
