APF Raw Division

Post  Eric Stone on Wed Dec 19, 2012 5:53 am

Although one could argue whether or not it is really "raw," I think it is time the APF adpots knee wraps for the raw division. There are a whole group of individuals (like myself) who would never squat without knee wraps. Most other organizations now allow knee wraps in their raw division. I realize that a tight knee wrap and definately add pounds to your squat, but it's still nothing like a suit or a shirt. At the very least, we should allow knee sleeves to keep the knees tight and warm. Even the USAPL/IPF allows that. Being a meet promoter, I think it would increase participation from raw lifters. Again, not that we should do everything that is asked of us if we don't think it is correct. But the idea of raw comes from not having to use the hard to use equipment of squat suits, briefs, bench shirts, etc. Knee wraps are easy to use and fairly cheap.

Just my opinion, I'd be interested to hear from others.

I am so glad you posted this, because I was thinking the same thing. I'm a big fan of the APF, and I would love it if they allowed knee sleeves or wraps in the raw division. Or even allow "classic raw" at all the APF meets. I haven't done an APF meet since I've been competing raw, just because they don't allow some sort of knee protection.
