A little help?
I was looking to start competing in the AAPF. Do all the APF meets include the AAPF or does it have to list both federations in the meet title on the website? Ive been competeing in the USPF so i have single ply gear. I know theres no limit on plys, but does single ply have their own division per meet or is it just raw or equipped? Its gonna be a while before I can invest in multiply gear. Whats the average number of meets within CA per year? Thanks in advance for all your help. Be seeing some of you soon.

Re: A little help?
Most meets include both APF and AAPF, but not all. The APF National meets, for instance, do not. Some meet directors also just don't want to deal with the cost/hassle of drug testing, so will only sanction it APF.
As far as the single ply division, as far as I know, it has been limited at this point only to certain meets (High School Nationals, Single Ply Nationals). I'm not sure on the status of it going forward. Otherwise most meets just have a regular equipped division, some (not all) will offer a raw division.
I would contact Scot Mendalson on meets in CA, he is the State Chair.

Unless there's been a very recent change; any brand is OK. Welcome to the AAPF and I hope you enjoy it!

Re: A little help?
By the end of this year, we will have had six meets in California. Our goal in the state is to have a minimum of six meets, perhaps eight each year.
Where do you live?
All California meets are APF. However, as long as you have an APF/AAPF card, you can lift AAPF in our meets. Two weeks ago, we had nine lifters compete AAPF in our APF California Summer bash. We drug test 10% of our AAPF competitors.
Why not visit our APF California Forum? We have the latest meet news in our state there, as well as all the state records.

Re: A little help?
Funny you mentioned the CA website I just stumbled onto it prior to checking in here, I live in Tulare, about 45 mins from Fresno. I'm new to the sport, had my first meet in May but did bench only, been training for a USPF meet in modesto since then, I really like the idea of the monolift and closer meets. Can t afford to spend the night prior to comp for weighins as often as id like to, meets in fresno I could drive home after early weigh ins. Know of any local lifters in my area?

Re: A little help?
Well, Bob Packer is hosting his annual Ironman meet on December 11. I believe that will be in Fresno.
We had a few lifters from Northern California a couple of weeks ago in our Summer Bash. I don't recall their names off hand.
We're expecting some lifters from up north in our October 23rd meet. Why not come on down and meet some of your fellow lifters? Heck, I'll bet Scot would let you spend the night in the gym saving you a motel fee.

Re: A little help?
Just to follow up...I checked the APF California mailing list and it appears that about 60% of the members are from Bakersfield north to the Oregon border. I also note that Lydell Wilkerson and Jimmy Garza are from Tulare.

Re: A little help?
I cant swing a trip to LA, but I will come down to watch and learn at the Ironman in fresno. Ive already committed to a USPF meet in November or Id just sign up for the fresno meet. Ive started a thread at the CA forum for some training advice and possible training partners. I really appreciate all the help from everyone and look forward to meeting some people. Thanks Steve Im grateful for the help and advice
