I would like to express my feelings on one aspect of the recent decisions by the Executive Council, the one forcing APF referees to ask permission to referee in another federation. I think this is a bad idea.

For the past two or three years, we’ve had a real problem getting APF-certified referees to do our meets here in California. One reason is that there aren’t many of them. We’ve been working to correct that and now have a small pool from which to select. But on at least two occasions ...

Today I responded to a couple of excellent questions from a fellow APF lifter pertinent to the new advance approval requirement for cross federation judging. The fellow lifter suggested having some explanatory info. available broadly would serve us well. The APF EC reviewed my response and supported it as appropriate to post in hopes of improving understanding and support. The info. is first being posted on the WPC-APF forum, and will subsequently be on the Powerlifting Watch forum.

Hey guys! Sept. 12th meet report.

I had a good meet! Not every lift I wanted to make and missed 2 of the all time records (over 50) I wanted, but still very good! I won the single ply division of the APF La. Open Championships at 275s (weighed 269). I also lifted as a Master and won Best lifter Master's.I squatted 804 (#9 on the PL Watch lifter Rankings). I tried to break Ernie Frantz's all-time >50 single ply squat record from the USPF in 1990 of 826. I tried 832 but couldn't come out ...

It was about this time two years ago that new Presidents (and VP) was voted in for the WPC and APF, all voted in for two year terms. Seeing as it is now almost two year later, just curious if all of the parties in question are planning on running again? And if anyone else is running against them? I know the procedure will be for the WPC President to be voted on at the 2009 AGM at the WPC Worlds, but not as sure what it will be for the APF Pres/VP.

Thanks for any information.

Some of you might have heard that our APF President Garry Frank has successfully created an APF High School Nationals. Something Ernie, then myself have been trying to create for years, but never was very successful. Garry really was the only one who had the resources/connections/coaching experience to make this happen. It's truly his baby. His first contest had 188 H.S. lifters, and then ...

I know as it stands currently, APF only allows a belt in the raw division. I have seen on the WPC/AWPC Raw Worlds website that they are allowing belt and wrist wraps. I think this is common sense as wrist wraps do not add pounds to your lifts, they just protect the wrists. I also wouldn't mind seeing knee sleves at least allowed to protect lifters knees. At the very least, we should have some uniformity in the rules especially since we have established APF and WPC raw records. As a meet ...

Meet Promotion

I was wondering what you meet directors do to promote your upcoming meets...I mean other than listing them on the WPC Meet Schedule and mentioning them in the various internet powerlifting forums. What do you do locally to get new APF members, get good attendance at the meets (spectators), and to get more participants to lift in those meets? Do any of you do newspaper advertising, flyers at various fitness centers/gyms? Any tips would be appreciated.

Referee Question

If there are two or more flights of bench-only in a competition, can a referee lift in one flight and judge in the others after his flight is completed? That's assuming, of course, that the referee is not judging anyone else in his own weight class.

I know when I was lifting in the USPF some years back this would happen occasionally. As long as there is no conflict of interest, I'm not sure why it couldn't happen but I wanted to get some official stance on this. We only have a small group ...

I have an original Monolift brand monolift and the jack just blew out this past week and I need to get a new one. It's an Enerpac 8 ton with a 6.25" stroke. They don't make the same jack anymore and the alternatives available still require some modifications. Anybody know of an exact replacement or have any other ideas? I appreciate any input.
